Cry of Fear Wiki

The Hunting Rifle is a powerful firearm in Cry of Fear, encountered in the same room where you find the key to exit Gustav-Dahl Park.

An excellent weapon to dispatch Flygares and to face Carcass. You can also obtain this rifle (along with plenty of ammo) in the same room in Gustav Park if you're playing co-op campaign. Just solve the statues puzzle and the door of the room will open.

While most other weapons have their real-life names, this one does not; it is a scoped version of the Lee-Enfield.

  • Has very high damage
  • High accuracy
  • You can zoom in with the scope
  • When you hold the sprint button, you can get better accuracy when zooming with cost of your stamina
  • The Hunting Rifle shots can go through multiple enemies. It could even go through the chain-link fence on the roof during the Carcass fight, allowing the player to shoot the boss through the walls, but this was removed by a patch

  • Not very useful in close combat
  • Hard to hit fast moving enemies
  • Slow reload speed
  • When reloading you lose the round in the chamber
  • Ammunition is plentiful at first, but then becomes scarce
  • The bolt reload when looking through the scope can throw off your aim
  • Whipping it will drain a small amount of stamina

Firing sound

  • The Lee-Enfield is a .303 caliber bolt action rifle with a muzzle velocity of 2,441 ft/s and a range of up to 3,000 yards, making it a powerful and deadly weapon.
  • It was first introduced in 1895, and was the rifle of choice for many service branches of the British Empire and the British Commonwealth up to 1957, and is still in use today in the Bangladesh police, making it the second longest serving bolt action rifle ever.
  • It has a 10 round clip that takes 5 round charger clips (the reason the gun can only hold 5 rounds in game is not explained), and can function both as a sniper rifle with a scope, and a normal service rifle without a scope.
  • Despite the scope's rear lens having a PiP (Picture-in-Picture) effect, ADSing the gun switches to an overlay. However this might be excused by the overall source engine limitations and the fact that the rear lens' image looks unmagnified.
